This is a second adaptation that I have made from . In the first - “Higher Ground” - I wrote:

This image is based on a photo I took in Fernie,British Columbia. It depicts a church set against the backdrop of the famous Three Sisters mountains

If you have not visited Fernie, perhaps it is because you haven’t yet noticed the Fernie-shaped hole in your heart. I think that we all have one. When you get there, you’ll see what I mean.

With this image, I celebrate the Fernie community - - outdoor enthusiasts, miners, displaced  Calgarians, escapees, the retired and the reinvigorated - who gather in this valley crook, amidst genuine wilderness, to be the sort of person that you just can’t be in a City.

To this, I would add that there are riches hidden in the hills that surround Fernie - metallurgical grade coal, timber, trapped natural gas - but they are nothing compared to the riches that exist when the the land is kept unspoilt - Elk, old growth timber, natural springs, a place to play.

This image is like a three dimensional pointillism. With the points placed atop spikes of various sizes. And they darken at difference rates when light shines through, from which the image is crafted. It is meant to be viewed with and without backlighting. An LED light is set into the frame to aid backlit viewing.
