Latest in my Bed Rock series.
To explain: This piece is part of a series. In the Summer of 2022, thrtee friends and I crossed Canada by bicycle as the Spinning Wheels Tour to raise awareness of how to live well with Parkinson's Disease. It was epic. We started in Victoria B.C. on June 25 and arrived in St. John's Newfoundland September 17. Along the way we encountered innumerable people living with the ailment, and we offered encouragement and support. We also raised funds for some very worthy charities.
On route, I collected interesting and unique rocks from interesting and unique places, and I have spent the last few months shaping and polishing them for use in art projects, ensuring that each piece can bear the sign "Made of Canada". I hope that you enjoy what is to come.
This piece, called Nature's Show: Fall colours with Green Argillite, is modelled after a prior work, It is substantially larger and with unique refinements.
I love this piece, as it contains some wonderful examples of Green Argillite rock - gorgeous stones from a favourite part of the country - the Elk River near Elko B.C. - and set into a sculptural image with excellent colour separation and texture. The vivid tree colourations are achieved by are all achieved by actively managing inputs on a material printer over a four day production process. As with almost all of my works, it is a one of a kind original.
This piece is currently mounted in a temporary frame, which is suitable for display but without a glass enclosure due to the degree of protrusion.
Framed: 21" x 21" x 2.5"
