Looking down. My transition to the arts was long, uncommon and totally unexpected. I had turned my back on early artistic passion when I was still in school. There was a story - a surprising one - but this isn't the place. Instead, I fostered a life of law, fatherhood, technology, science and reason. Then another thing happened, also surprising, and also beyond the scope of this note. So why bring it up at all? To explain why I started looking down. Once my passions for artistic expression were reawakened, I notice small details around me. Every step, every glance, every pause reveals shapes, textures, smells and patterns that I had just never seen before. This is one in a series that comes from looking down. It is a Canadian vision, with a hint of Japanese design.
